Once the loom has been assembled and warped, the cartoon is hung behind the warp to serve as a template. (The lower corners have yet to be secured so that the image remains absolutely stationary throughout the weaving process.)
The outlines will be transfered to the warps using waterproof felt pen by sighting through the warps with extreme care. The eyes must be kept level, relative to the part being duplicated to avoid distortion of the image.
It is best not to trace the entire cartoon at once, but rather in about 6 inch increments at a time, keeping just above the current weaving level.
Tracings of these two snapshots were used to create the composition.
The tiger and foreground in the left photo were superimposed
over the trees in the right photo.
